The Division was awarded National Accreditation by the
Commission on
Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies,
Inc,
(CALEA) in 1996 and was reaccredited in 1999, 2003, and 2006.
The
Division completed a thorough, agency wide self evaluation which
resulted in a successful analysis by a team of independent, professional
assessors.
In 2006, the Division
received Flagship recognition. Please visit the
Accreditation Section

Law
enforcement accreditation ensures consistent performance by agency
personnel and provides an extra shield against liability. The
accreditation will also increase agency effectiveness and strengthen
community confidence and respect. Additional information can be obtained
by visiting the CALEA home page (
www.calea.org
) on the World Wide Web.
CALEA
is currently the only national accrediting entity for law enforcement
agencies and there are only eleven accredited agencies in the State of
South Carolina. The USC Division of Law Enforcement and Safety is the
first campus law enforcement agency to be accredited in the state and
the fifteenth to be accredited nationwide.
The
Division will continue its quest for professional excellence by
maintaining compliance with accreditation standards and improving the
delivery of law enforcement services to the Carolina community.
