About this Fellowship

Professional training pipeline program to cultivate the next generation of theatre professionals.

The program, named after the talented Associate Artist/Lighting Designer, Allen Lee Hughes, offers the highest standard of training through immersion in the art and business of producing theater. Successful candidates are highly motivated individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in the arts. Candidates from underrepresented communities are encouraged to apply.

Seasonal fellowships are full time and require a dedication of 35-38 weeks.

Deadlines are typically in February, but be sure to check the competition website for the current cycle’s deadline.


Award Value

All fellows receive a weekly stipend of $700 in addition to mentorship from Arena Stage staff members, professional development workshops, and monthly meetings with directors, designers, and senior staff administrators. Housing is not provided.
