About this Fellowship
Summer programs at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) provide an opportunity to spend a summer working at the NIH side-by-side with some of the leading scientists in the world, in an environment devoted exclusively to biomedical research.
Internships cover a minimum of eight weeks, with students generally arriving at the NIH in May or June. The NIH Institutes and the Office of Intramural Training & Education sponsor a wide range of summer activities including lectures featuring distinguished NIH investigators, career/professional development workshops, and Summer Poster Day.
SIP is open to college, graduate school, and professional (e.g., medical, dental, pharmacy, etc.) school students. SIP contains several sub-programs focused on specific projects and audiences that students may also apply to.
Application deadline is March 1, but applications are accepted on a rolling basis beginning in November, and students who submit applications in the first 3 weeks of the application being open are 3 times more likely to receive a position.
Approximately $5000 stipend for a minimum 8 week program (stipend amounts vary by student level).
