About this Fellowship

The Horowitz Foundation grant supports emerging social policy scholars whose research projects address contemporary issues. Applicants must be PhD students in the social sciences conducting research with a policy application.

Deadlines are typically in December, but be sure to check the competition website for the current cycle’s deadline.

Applicants must be current PhD candidates who have defended their dissertation proposals by the time of application or had their topic approved by their department. Applications are evaluated based on the Trustees’ assessment of criteria such as: feasibility, applicability, originality, methodology, theoretically informed or empirically rich research, and letters of recommendation. No specific weight is given to any one area.

Award Value

Awardees receive up to $7,500 ($5,000 initially and then an additional $2,500 upon completion of a project related to their research).
