About this Fellowship
Awards for study and research in the sciences or in engineering leading to master's or doctoral degrees in the mathematical, physical, biological, engineering, behavioral and social sciences, and in the history and philosophy of sciences.
Applicants must address the Intellectual Merit and Broader Impacts of their proposed research in their applications, and utilize appropriate headers to indicate those sections within their essays.

Award Value
Three-year annual stipend of $37,000, plus $16,000 cost of education allowance for tuition and fees, for students pursuing graduate education. Usable over 5 years.

Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship
Provides outstanding benefits and opportunities to students pursuing doctoral degrees in fields of study that use high performance computing to solve complex science and engineering problems. $45,000 stipend, full tuition and fees, $1,000 annual travel allowance; renewable for up to 4 years. Also, recipients participate in a 12 week DoE practicum and yearly conferences.
Department of Defense National Defense Science and Engineering Grad Fellowships
Highly competitive, portable fellowship that is awarded to U.S. citizens and nationals who intend to pursue a doctoral degree in one of 22 supported STEM disciplines. Three years of support, including full tuition and all mandatory fees, a monthly stipend ($3,600, for a total of 43,200 annually), and up to $1,600 in medical insurance.
SMART (Science, Math, and Research for Transformation) Scholarship
Provides an opportunity for students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM disciplines) to receive a full scholarship and increase the number of civilian scientists and engineers working at Department of Defense laboratories. Full tuition and education related fees, stipend of $25,000-38,000 depending on degree pursued, paid summer internships, health insurance and book allowance, mentoring, and employment placement with the DoD after graduation.
