Diversity and Inclusion

The College of Arts and Sciences is dedicated to promoting diversity throughout all disciplines and in all of our teaching, research and service endeavors. We strive to foster an environment that values and is strengthened by the many different backgrounds, perspectives and experiences that faculty, students and staff bring to our learning community.

Diversity: Driving Force Toward Excellence

To fully realize our vision as a college of excellence in today’s interconnected world, we recognize the critical driving force that diversity plays. By respecting and embracing our collective humanity, we bring breadth, strength and energy to our academic mission.

College of Arts and Sciences Diversity Committee

As part of our commitment to diversity, the College of Arts and Sciences has convened a diversity committee consisting of students, faculty and staff from across the college.

The committee is focused on promoting diversity and inclusion through recruitment, retention, advancement, engagement and training. Four subcommittees are organized around the following areas of priority:

  • Student Recruitment, Retention and Advancement
  • Faculty Recruitment, Retention and Advancement
  • Campus Climate, Inclusion and Engagement
  • Staff Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement

Academic Diversity Officers

Each college has a diversity officer who develops and implements unit-level strategic plans focusing on diversity, equity and inclusion. Unit-level diversity officers work closely with the university's Office of Diversity and Inclusion and serve on the Council of Academic Diversity Officers, which supports and advances implementation of the university's Equity And Inclusion Plan.

The College of Arts and Sciences’ academic diversity officer is Mylene Culbreath, Vice Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
