Public History/Master in Library & Information Science

This program combines respected curriculum, alumni networks and faculty expertise from two colleges at the University of South Carolina. Both the Public History program and the School of Information Science rank nationally, with this combined program a perfect fit for students seeking specialized skills and career advancement in library and history fields.

Review the required curriculum in the Academic Bulletin. Students are required to complete a thesis and oral exam in public history and complete a portfolio for the MLIS.

MA in English/Master in Library & Information Science

 This joint degree program in English and Library and Information Science requires 55 hours of course work and culminates in two compatible and highly marketable degrees.

Students applying to the joint English/MLIS will submit applications to both programs separately and will be evaluated by each program. Admission to one program does not guarantee admission to the joint degree. Students applying to the joint degree must have their applications for both programs submitted by the English application deadline (January 11). Applications not submitted to both programs by the English department deadline will not be considered for the joint degree.

MA/MLIS students will be assigned academic advisors in both the Department of English and the School of Library and Information Science. Prior to registering for classes each semester, students should make an appointment to talk with both advisors. The MA advisor will help students plan and file a program of study.

Review the required curriculum in the Academic Bulletin. Students are required to complete a thesis for the MA in English and a portfolio for the MLIS. Successful completion of the School of Information Science portfolio is a requirement for the MLIS Portfolios are submitted prior to graduation. The portfolio due date for students graduating in May is April 15. The portfolio due date for students graduating in summer is June 30. The portfolio due date for students graduating in December is November 15.
