Nina Brook

Nina Brook

Nina Brook began her work in newspapers as editor of the student newspaper at Georgia State University. After college, she worked as a reporter for newspapers in Georgia, Minnesota and South Carolina, focusing primarily on state and local government issues. At WIS-TV, the NBC affiliate in Columbia, Brook covered state government and politics where she received a first place award for general news reporting from the South Carolina AP Broadcasters.


Scott Farrand

Scott Farrand has more than 20 years of professional experience in publication and print design, visual communication and informational graphics. He has received state, national and international honors for design work and informational graphics. He is the director of CreateAthon@UofSC.

Michelle LaRoche

Michelle LaRoche

Michelle LaRoche, a journalist with more than 20 years of experience in business and financial news, teaches reporting and editing. As the Baldwin Business and Financial Chair in Journalism, she is focused on teaching students how to cover business, finance and economics as well as how to enhance their coverage of other topics — sports, education, entertainment — by understanding the business factors at play.

Manie Robinson

Manie Robinson

Manie Robinson is a seasoned storyteller, filmmaker and educator. He served as a sports reporter, columnist and video producer for The Greenville News and the USA Today Network. ​He was named the South Carolina Sportswriter of the Year by the National Sports Media Association in 2018 and 2019. He has won more than a dozen press association awards for video production, breaking news, enterprise reporting and opinion writing.

Eileen Waddell

Eileen Waddell spent 27 years as a working journalist, the last 21 at The State newspaper in Columbia, where she was the longtime assistant managing editor. She brings newsroom experience, advice and observations to the classroom, making the hypothetical more tangible. She specializes in teaching story development, balanced reporting and thoughtful story choice and framing that reflects the depth of a community.
