Third Annual Equity In Education Conference

Each year, the Center for the Education and Equity of African American Students holds a conference to explore and discuss issues around equity in education. The theme for the 2020 conference was Culturally Sustaining Teaching for Educators and Students.

Venus Evans-Winters, Ph.D.

Day 1 Keynote Speaker: Venus Evens-Winters, Ph.D.

Venus E. Evans-Winters is Professor of Education at Illinois State University in the College of Education.

​She researches and teaches in the areas of social and cultural foundations of education, Black feminist thought, critical race theory, educational policy, and qualitative inquiry.

Stephen Hancock, Ph.D.

Day 2 Keynote Speaker: Stephen Hancock, Ph.D.

Stephen Hancock is an Associate Professor of Multicultural Education in the Department of Reading and Elementary Education at the University of Noth Carolina - Charlotte. 

Hancock’s primary research interest is socio-cultural perspectives in urban elementary school context, which include foci on the development of healthy academic relationships as it relate to the perceptions and psychology of self and others.
